Sensitised Skin

When your skin's had enough, we help it recover

Your skin reacts to everything. It stings, flushes, tightens or breaks out at products that seem to work for everyone else, and you've got a cupboard of half-used bottles to prove it. It's frustrating and a little defeating, and somewhere along the way you may have been made to feel it's something you're doing wrong. You're not, and you're exactly who we built this clinic for.

Sensitive, or sensitised? The difference matters

This is the distinction most people are never told, and it changes everything. Sensitive skin is something you're born with, a naturally reactive skin type. Sensitised skin is something that's happened to your skin, usually from over-exfoliation, too many active ingredients, harsh treatments or environmental stress that have damaged the barrier and left it reactive. Most skin that behaves "sensitively" today is actually sensitised, and that's genuinely good news, because a sensitised barrier can be repaired.

Our honest approach

We won't push your skin, and we won't sell you a course it can't handle. When skin is reactive, the answer is almost always to do less, not more, and to rebuild the barrier before anything else. This is the heart of how we work, and it's why we lead with corneotherapy, an approach built entirely around repairing and protecting the skin's barrier. Often the most useful thing we do early on is simplify what you're putting on your skin. We'll be honest if something you're using is part of the problem, and we'll say it kindly, because the goal is your skin's recovery, not a lecture.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between sensitive and sensitised skin?
Sensitive skin is a reactive skin type you're born with. Sensitised skin is acquired, usually from over-exfoliation, harsh products, too many actives or environmental stress damaging the barrier. Most reactive skin we see is sensitised rather than truly sensitive, which means it can be repaired.

Why does my skin react to everything?
Usually because the barrier, your skin's protective outer layer, has been compromised, which leaves nerve endings more exposed and the skin less able to tolerate products and the environment. Repairing that barrier is what calms the reactivity, which is exactly what our approach focuses on.

Can sensitised skin be fixed?
In most cases, yes. Because sensitised skin is the result of barrier damage rather than a permanent trait, repairing and supporting the barrier can restore comfort and resilience over time. We'll be honest about the timeline for your skin.

Is there something I should stop doing?
Often, yes, and it's usually the kindest thing we can suggest. Over-exfoliating, layering too many actives and using harsh products are common culprits. We'll look at your routine and gently help you simplify it, since less is frequently what reactive skin needs most.

What treatments are safe for sensitive skin?
Plenty, when they're chosen carefully. Corneotherapy-led Dermaviduals facials, LED, BYONIK and gentle enzyme work are all well suited to reactive skin. We always assess first and start gently, and we'll never put your skin through more than it can handle.

Will you try to sell me a lot of products?
No, often the opposite. A big part of helping reactive skin is paring back to what it genuinely needs. We'll only recommend what supports your barrier, and we'll explain why, because simplifying your routine is frequently the turning point
